Read your insurance plan carefully, Usually “normal wear and tear” is NOT covered. “Normal wear and tear” would include the case getting scuffed up, the legends on the buttons wearing out, that sort of thing. Insurance usually covers the phone getting lost or stolen. Some insurance plans do include accidental damage, such as dropping it, like what happened to your phone, others do not.
